One of the biggest health challenges parents face is preparing healthful, convenient meals their children will actually eat. But it's not easy, and many well-meaning parents fall into the “kid food” trap, serving sure-fire hits like pizza, hot dogs and chicken nuggets just to get their finicky children to eat something. But food experts and health researchers have come up with a number of simple strategies that can put an end to food battles and expand the menu options for even the most finicky child. Several of the country's most popular experts on kids and food will gather at the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine and Travel +Leisure magazines to share practical advice for feeding kids and avoiding the common mistakes many parents make when facing down a picky eater.

Scheduled to appear: Rachael Ray, the host of several popular television programs and a best-selling cookbook author. She is the founder of Yum-O! a nonprofit organization that empowers kids and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking.

Jessica Seinfeld, the author of the best-selling cookbook “Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food” and the founder and president of Baby Buggy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing clothing and equipment to New York's families in need. She is the wife of Jerry Seinfeld and the mother of their three children.

Alice Waters, the acclaimed chef and founder of Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley, Calif., and the author of many best-selling cookbooks including “The Art of Simple Food.” Ms. Waters is the creator of the Edible Schoolyard, a nonprofit program that shows how children who have been raised in a fast food culture can be taught the joy of “slow food.”

Hosted by Tara Parker-Pope, the Well columnist for The New York Times, the panel will also feature noted childhood health researchers, including Professor Leann L. Birch of Pennsylvania State University, who will share her insights on the science of childhood eating habits and offer practical tips for raising a healthy eater; and Dr. Harvey Karp, pediatrician and author of “The Happiest Toddler on the Block: The New Way to Stop the Daily Battle of Wills and Raise a Secure and Well-Behaved One-to-Four-Year-Old,” who will offer help for parents coping with dinner-time food battles.

Whether your child is a picky eater or you are simply looking for ways to improve the quality of the food served at your family table, this exciting panel of experts is certain to provide entertaining and insightful advice for busy families.
