Marco Barrila, born and raised in Messina, found his passion for cooking at age 13 working in his grandmother’s trattoria La Caraffa dating back to the 1800s. By age of 18, Barrila had already apprenticed at local bakeries, butchers and pasta shops. At age 24, he moved to New York City where he began his career as head pasta chef at Sfuzzi’s. Following this, Barrila joined Café Concept Fiorello’s Lincoln Center creating the now famed antipasti bar and winning Top 40 Chef in NYC alongside colleagues Daniel Bouloud and Marcus Samuelsson. Later, Barrila went on to open his own Bistro NOI on Bleeker Street wining numerous awards and food competitions, hosting radio cooking shows and serving as a judge on the board of the French Culinary Institute in New York City.
In 2005, Chef Barrila visited the Hamptons and discovered the amazing farms, seafood and wineries immediately falling in love with the landscape that was similar to his native Sicily. Barrila launched Insatiable EATS, a niche catering and event specialist company serving the Hamptons and New York’s most elite clientele. It is here where he continues to create sought after international cuisine for private clients and public events.
You can now find Chef Barrila experimenting in his new pasta laboratory at Insatiable Eat’s Pastaria and Restaurant location in Riverhead on the East End of Long Island. Look for his line of Insatiable pastas and sauces coming out soon in his signature Sicilian heritage style of course! Chef Barrila is also the co-owner of the Shinnecock Lobster Factory located in Southampton where he is known for his six unique flavors of lobster rolls and local seafood specialties. This year, Barrila added SLF’s first food truck to the repertoire putting the lobster rolls on wheels!
As a chef and eventeur, and media personality, Barrila is not new to the Food Network scene. Barrila was a participant on the show Chopped and often seen as a regular talent performing for the NYCWFF events. Chef Barrila is excited to be back for another great performance in the “Taste of Italy” so close to his heart and home. Barrila believes we can discover our inner creativity and celebrate with each other through the fun of pasta making!READ LESS
