Basil Jones is currently the head chef Jasmine’s Caribbean Cuisine in Hell’s Kitchen. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Basil Jones first learned to cook as a young child by assisting his grandmother in the kitchen. At the ripe age of 20, he took a position at a hotel restaurant where he learned to prepare French and Italian cuisine. Recognized by food and beverage managers who wanted him to embrace his talent, Jones helped to create unique dishes for Jamaica’s 25th anniversary in 1987 and was awarded a certificate of excellence from the prime minister. His achievements were followed by a scholarship to culinary school in the U.S. and in 1995 he emigrated to New York to become who know as Chef Basil Jones.
