Big Gay Ice Cream Co-founders Bryan Petroff and Douglas Quint each had their own respective career in New York City. Then in 2009, the duo decided they wanted to do something different and partnered up to rent an ice cream truck that summer. They started a Facebook diary to detail the ice cream truck experiences, titling it “the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck.” They figured eventually they’d come up with a more permanent name, but somehow it stuck, and The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck was born. With the incredible knack for creativity, the duo launched their original flavor combinations and brand of Big Gay Ice Cream to local stardom. In September of 2011, Bryan and Doug opened their first brick and mortar Big Gay Ice Cream shop in New York’s East Village neighborhood, with a second following suit in 2012 in the West Village. Dessert Professional featured Big Gay Ice Cream in their 10 best US ice cream parlors issue in June of 2012, and in 2013, The Daily Beast and USA Today dubbed Big Gay Ice Cream #5 in their rankings of best ice cream shops in the world. In 2015, they opened their first out of market location in Philadelphia’s Center City and released their first cookbook, Big Gay Ice Cream: Saucy Stories & Frozen Treats: Going All the Way with Ice Cream. In spring 2017, Big Gay Ice Cream launched ice cream pint flavors that are both re-creations of some of the most popular flavors at the shops and concoctions just for the pints. The pints are available at select retailers on the East Coast and online nationwide, bringing smiles to folks across the country.
