He has been in the hospitality industry for over a decade, starting as a bar-back and worked his way up to become Head Bartender. It wasn’t until two years ago when his dream of opening his own restaurant came to fruition, and it was there where he discovered his passion for cooking.

Although his time in the kitchen has been relatively short, being a self-taught chef has allowed Chef Lopez to use his creativity to put new twists on old classics. Lopez combines his imagination and his interest for the Mexican culture and its cuisine, which along with periodic eye-opening trips to Oaxaca, have helped him with the process of crafting amazing authentic modern Mexican dishes.

Currently, Lopez shares his passion and enthusiasm for the Mexican cuisine with his wife and sister at Cocina Chente. Together, they have been able to create a casual eclectic atmosphere where one could savor a variety of botanas and enjoy a handcrafted mezcal cocktail. Chente, affectionately known by most, was opened in 2016 being the first and only Mezcaleria in the Bronx.
