Kareem Queeman is a 2023 James Beard Foundation Award semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef and Baker, who grew up in Harlem baking cakes in his grandmother’s apartment, developing a lifelong love of the culinary arts and earning the nickname “Mr. Bake”.
In 2013, Kareem “Mr. Bake” Queeman founded Mr. Bake Sweets, and quickly gained popularity for his custom cakes and signature desserts backed by Southern family recipes and full of sweet nostalgia.
After losing his mother in 2017, Mr. Bake made it his mission to represent Black and queer bakers on a national scale. He has appeared on many national networks as a competitor, guest, and judge, always showing up as his true authentic self to spread queer joy and tell his story proudly.
Mr. Bake has appeared on Netflix, Food Network, Rachael Ray, the TODAY Show, Kelly Clarkson, and was the 2018 winner of the Discovery Family series “Bake it Like Buddy.”
In addition to his success on national television, and owning his on business for the last decade, Mr. Bake is proud to be working with organization such as C-CAP, Food Education Fund and The Culinary Institute of New York at Monroe College speaking and inspiring the next generation of culinary leaders and change markers.
