JR Savage, owner of Gordo’s Cantina, has a background in both nightlife and the service industry that dates back to 2004.With a knowledge of the industry, and love for cooking (Mexican food in particular) he travelled back and forth to Mexico over the course and created the concept in 2012.

In 2016 he partnered up with chef Ray Morales to open the first brick and mortar location and create a menu featuring simple and straightforward dishes from her native Mexico City and the Bajio Region, which are the inspiration for the restaurant’s aesthetics and menu. Rayna has been immerse in the Mexican and pastry cuisine since 1999 working alongside chef Julian Medina and Richard Sandoval in Pampano and Maya restaurant, Roberto Santivanez in Frida and Elizabeth Falkner in Corvo Bianco.
