Born and raised in New Delhi, India, Salil is a decorated connoisseur of Southeast Asian cuisine, a passionate advocate for Asian food culture, and the mastermind behind Fungi Hospitality’s premier concept, Laut, the first Malaysian restaurant to be awarded a Michelin Star in New York City. A Parsons School of Design alum, Mehta is comprehensively involved in all creative aspects of his concepts, from interiors, graphics, and logos to the design of his globally-influenced and thoughtful food & beverage menus. His popular bars and restaurants, such as Kebaya in Union Square, Wau on the Upper West Side, and Singapura in Gramercy, have made a mark on the New York culinary scene and earned him critical acclaim with features in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Eater New York. Mehta’s passion for hospitality was inherited from his father, and he continues raising the Southeast Asian cuisine profile in the city.
