Considered an “enfant terrible” of international cuisine, Salvo Lo Castro is a world-renowned, innovative chef who brings an avant-garde spirit to Italian cuisine.
Born on May 5, 1973, in Catania, Salvo spent his childhood with his paternal grandparents, who were hazelnut producers- his grandfather regarded as the “King of Hazelnuts.” His maternal grandparents owned a rotisserie in Malvagna, near Messina, where young Salvo would go immediately after school.

Salvo left home at 12 to gain his first work experience at the Gatto Blu Restaurant in Linguaglossa, on the slopes of Etna. He then attended a hotel school, earning a degree as a technician in “Hotel and Catering Activities” from the Giovanni Falcone Institute in Giarre.

While studying, Salvo began working in the most prestigious hotels in Taormina, such as Hotel Villa Sant’Andrea, Mazzaro Sea Palace, Hotel Timeo, and San Domenico Palace. Early in his career, he had the pleasure of preparing dishes for such international stars as Tom Cruise, Naomi Campbell, Gloria Gaynor, and Dolce & Gabbana.

After moving to Rome, Salvo collaborated for ten years with the Confraternity of San Carlo, an ecclesiastical body of the Holy See, where he prepared favorite dishes for Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI. His work continued with major film companies, earning appreciation from Hollywood celebrities and Italian actors alike, including Anthony Hopkins, Robert De Niro, Hayden Christensen, and Tim Roth, Gigi Proietti, Lino Banfi, and Giancarlo Giannini. His friendship with director Giorgio Capitani was particularly influential during this period.

In 2010, Chef Salvo entered the Presidency of the Council where he cooked for many political figures, then spent three years managing events for the CEI Italian Episcopal Conference.

After this illustrious career in Italy, Salvo embarked on a new adventure. In 2016, he moved to Romania to run Picasso Restaurant, which was nominated as one of the Top Italian Restaurants under his talent.
Today, Salvo lives in New York City and operates CASASALVO, his exclusive catering experience centered around Mediterranean cuisine, as well as his newly-launched CASASALVO café and market, located in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. For more information, visit CASASALVO.com.
