The son of Southern-Italian immigrants, Joe Sansotta, grew up in a tight-knit family who instilled in him a deep appreciation of working hard and eating well. He learned to cook primarily from his mother, before venturing into a twelve-year career in the food service industry, working at both full-service restaurants and casual eateries in the NYC area. His culmination of culinary experience and love of Italian home-cooking is the inspiration behind creating MUTZ Fast. Fresh. Italian.

MUTZ’s mission is to bring incredibly-fresh and superior-quality food to market that is reminiscent of old-school Italian-American cooking, but in a manner and design that is appealing to the modern consumer.

When he’s not working, Joe enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessica, his two young children, and of course his big Italian family!

What is your favorite NYC restaurant? And what is your go-to dish? Brindle Room in the East Village is definitely one of my favorites. It has a super cool and low-key vibe, and all the food I've had there has been delicious. The Steakhouse Burger with carmelized onions is hands-down my go-to dish everytime I'm in craving a juicy, perfectly-cooked burger! For apps, I would highly recommend the Slow-Smoked Chicken Wings, Duck Confit Poutine, and if you want to add some greens, the Kale Salad will definitely lighten up your meal.

What is your ultimate meal? My ultimate meal is definitely my mom's Bucatini pasta with home-grown Romano string beans from the garden, diced potatoes and Calabrian chili peppers in a pealed-tomato broth.

What three things are always in your pantry? Approximately 20 different varieties of dried Pasta, home-canned San Marzano Tomato Sauce, and home-made spicy giardiniera.

If you weren't a chef, what would you be? An Astronaut. :)

If you could cook with anyone, who would that be? Chef Gordon Ramsay. He is my culinary idol. I love eating at all his fantastic restaurants, and it would be truly amazing to learn his technique for getting that Beef Wellington to be so incredibly delicious!
