Biography

Sarah Nelson grew up in Libertyville, Illinois. Her first memory of childhood is going to her Aunt Lou’s every summer, and she would plow and acre her own land. As kids growing up she would always plant her own vegetables and always remembers pickling her own cucumbers and that was just the start of where her passion began.

Sarah Nelson grew up in Libertyville, Illinois. Her first memory of childhood is going to her Aunt Lou’s every summer, and she would plow and acre her own land. As kids growing up she would always plant her own vegetables and always remembers pickling her own cucumbers and that was just the start of where her passion began.

Sarah attended University of Illinois, studying food science human nutrition. Her first interest was the way that food affected diseases but slowly overtime became more driven by cooking. After college, she moved to London for a year and traveled around for a while. Which helped expand her passion for food and expose to other food cultures. When she came back to the states she went to Cooking Hospitality Institute of Chicago.

She started on grande manger at a restaurant called, Meritage, and worked her way up to sous chef. Eventually her hard work paid off, and she opened the sister restaurant, Fixture, as the Head Chef for six years. She then traveled to New York where she landed the job as Executive Chef of Celebrity Chef Chris Santos’ restaurant Beauty & Essex. She then also became the Executive Chef of his first New York City restaurant, The Stanton Social. Ever since teaming up with Chef Santos, she has never looked back.
