After working in finance for several years, he co-founded and sold an internet advertising company in 2001. A few years later, Evan had an idea to open an authentic Philly cheesesteak restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. The first Shorty’s location opened its doors in 2006. Staying true to his Philly roots, Evan had the bread par-baked and shipped in from Philly where it was then baked off on the premises. Aside from the classic cheesesteaks with whiz and fried onions (whiz wit’), he offered other South Philly staples such as roast pork sandwiches with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. He added a bar and some tv’s and the Shorty’s concept was born. Fast forward 12 years later Shorty’s is still going strong with five locations and plans for more.
