Wah Gwaan is a Jamaican taqueria born from a love of vibrant flavors and a bit of culinary serendipity. The journey began when, on a fateful Taco Tuesday, Stephen and his wife, Emily, decided to use leftovers from the weekly Sunday dinners prepared by Stephen’s mom and aunt, who cooked authentic Jamaican dishes. Mixing these rich, bold flavors with fresh tortillas, they discovered a fusion unlike any other—a blend that brought together the best of Jamaican cuisine and the beloved taco.
Since then, Wah Gwaan has brought this unique fusion to life at the Smorgasburg Food Festival and the Brooklyn Market at Barclays Center. Known for its signature jerk chicken, jerk pork, vegan, codfish, and oxtail tacos, Wah Gwaan has captivated food lovers with its inventive approach and authentic taste. The “Gwaanade,” a refreshing lemonade made from a secret family recipe, has also become a crowd favorite.
Wah Gwaan is not just about food—it’s a celebration of culture, community, and the joy of sharing great flavors. Each bite offers a taste of the creativity and passion that started on a simple Taco Tuesday and grew into a beloved culinary experience in New York City.
