Mahalo New York was created because I wanted to share with New York all of the exotic flavors I grew up with, and the flavors I tasted in Hawaii on my honeymoon. The many tastes and pure nature of Hawaii invoked the happiness in me. I found myself saying “Oh my god! It’s so pretty!” to almost everything I saw there. The flavors of Hawaii were mouthwatering good! I was amazed of how similar the flavors of Hawaii were to the flavors I grew up with in Guyana.

I wanted to bring some of those flavors to New York City. Together, my husband and I created a line of tropical and classic American treats that we both love eating ourselves. We use only the finest ingredients, and bake for our customers as if we are baking for our loved ones. We serve cupcakes, cakes, pastries, coffee, ice-cream and smiles. Baking and bringing your ideas to life is our goal!

What is your favorite NYC restaurant? And what is your go-to dish? One of my favorite NYC restaurant is Supper Pollo. They are located in Ridgewood, Queens... just a few minutes away from our shop. My go-to dish would be the roasted chicken with a side of yellow rice, beans, and avocado salad...extra green sauce please!!! What is your ultimate meal? My ultimate meal is my mom's chicken curry and roti. My mom makes her own masala so you would always taste the perfect combination of spices and heat. The chicken is succulent, the gravy is always plentiful so soaking it up with pieces of fluffy roti makes my mouth water. What three things are always in your pantry? In our pantry we always have flour, eggs, and fresh fruits If you weren't a chef, what would you be? If I were not a chef I would be a cultural voyager, exploring different culture while traveling and eating. If you could cook with anyone, who would that be? I would love to cook with Marcus Samuelsson. Red Rooster Harlem has an amazing Chicken and Red Velvet Waffle. The opportunity to make this dish with him would knock my socks off!! What’s your favorite NYCWFF memory? I am looking forward to creating my favorite NYCWFF memory this October if chosen.
