His grandfather, on his mother’s side, was a Khansama at the Mayor’s House in New Delhi before Partition, where cooking was not just a profession but a discipline, a responsibility, and a matter of pride.

Chef Zahir’s own journey began at home. As a child, he would stand beside his mother in the kitchen—watching, helping, and learning—absorbing the rhythms, instincts, and seasonal wisdom of Indian home cooking. Those quiet moments of observation and participation ignited a lifelong passion for food and shaped his emotional connection to cooking.
