Chef Shelly is more than a chef—she’s a storyteller, culture connector, and community builder whose journey began in the warm, fragrant kitchen of her grandmother, frying dumplings and serving up box lunches from their childhood home. That formative memory sparked a lifelong passion for food and a deep respect for the hustle, heart, and heritage that feed our communities.
With over a decade of experience in the culinary world, Chef Shelly has carved out a lane that blends traditional Jamaican flavors with the rich diversity of New York’s melting pot. As co-founder of 2 Girls & a Cookshop, a vibrant “click & mortar” business she built alongside her daughter Jataun, she brings generational stories to life through bold, culture-blended street food. Her cooking style embodies Jamaica’s national motto, Out of Many, One People, reimagined as Out of Many, One Cultures—a mantra she lives and cooks by.
Chef Shelly’s unwavering work ethic and creative fire have earned her and her team prestigious recognition—from winning Best Bite at Food Network’s NYCWFF Tacos & Tequila, to appearing on MasterChef, The Great Food Truck Race, Chopped, and being featured in the New York Times, Forbes, and Elvis Duran Morning Show. She’s been invited to feed tastemakers at Essence Festival, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Apple Music’s 50 Years of Hip Hop, Art Basel, and more.
But beyond accolades and press, Chef Shelly’s purpose is rooted in community empowerment, cultural preservation, and creating space for women—especially Black women—to lead, shine, and thrive in the food industry. A proud entrepreneur and mother, she is an amplifier of the “uninterrupted woman”—fearless, creative, and always leaning into her amazing-ness.
